Iron

When it comes to the body, one of the main vitamins it needs it iron. Many people do not know the importance of iron, and the importance for the body to have it. In many cases, in both men and women, adults and children, there are many that have an iron deficiency. Many times, people do not know that their iron levels are low. They do not know better, unless they go and have their blood tested. Having an iron deficiency means that the person has a low iron level. Also in many cases, when a person has an iron deficiency, anemia of the blood is the result.

To be anemic means that you have a lower amount of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood-which is caused by low levels of iron. With anemia, iron deficiency is the most common types of anemia. Tests have shown that 20% of women, 50% of pregnant women, and only 3% of men have an iron deficiency. When a person is anemic or has an iron deficiency, the doctor may give you a prescription or may tell you about any over the counter iron supplements that he/ she thinks you should have. In addition, when a women is pregnant it is very important that she takes iron supplements to make sure the blood supply is nutritional for the child.

Other than taking iron supplements, there are other ways to for the body to get iron. If you do not take any iron supplements, it is important that you eat iron rich foods. One way of getting iron is by eating foods rich in iron. There are many foods high in iron that you wouldn’t even think are high in iron. Some high iron foods that you can get that are cheap are lean red meat, pork, liver, green vegetables, nuts, egg yolks. One of the best iron rich food a body can get is liver. Amongst these foods, you may also find iron in cereal. Some of the cereals that have iron are frosted flakes, malt-o-meal, co-co wheats, and many baby cereals. If you wanted to get a better list of iron rich foods, you may go to the doctor or even go on the internet.

Even when people think they are not getting iron, they are. There is even iron in water. In almost everything you buy to eat and drink, there is iron in it.
